#ELVISENERGYEXPERIMENT - TELL YOUR STORY
In 2020, we’re exploring our energy and how it affects us physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. We’ve hooked up with a series of experts who will set an experiment every month to help us discover a new way of managing our energy.
Since the beginning of time, telling stories has been a powerful way for us to express our emotions and create connections with others, all whilst giving us a huge energetic boost as we articulate and process the thoughts and feelings, we might not have known we held.
To help us explore our inner stories and how we can creatively express these we’ve teamed up with the awesome Kat Lewis, founder of creative writing consultancy, Undertow.
All of our stories are worthy of attention and the practice of sorting them out into a narrative is a powerfully cathartic tool. Something happens when you set pen to paper and allow the words to flow through you without interrupting yourself.
For the next month we’re following in the footsteps of Virginia Woolf and James Joyce to try a bit of free writing.
Each day for the first week of this experiment we’re going to find 5 minutes to set our pen to the page, starting with the word “I……” and simply writing without stopping.
If you can't think of what to say, simply start with “I can't think of what to say”, or try to note all the things you feel, see and smell.
Whatever you write, keep going.
Don't cross anything out and don't correct your grammar.
Write with no one looking over your shoulder.
Let it possess you.
Then leave it be.
You don’t need to review what you’ve written, just experience it as it flows from your pen to paper.
If you hate it, throw it away.
If you're on to something, you've started it there.
If you find one golden sentence, you've done well.
Every day this week write something fresh for 5 mins and see what's on your mind.
And if 5 mins isn’t enough, just keep going.
For weeks two, three and four we’ll have specific briefs to write about which will be revealed in time, so make sure you follow us on LinkedIn and Twitter where we’ll be sharing our experience of free writing and the impact it’s having on our energy.
